Fiona Tate also known as the Depression Muse, writes because she can't not write.
She's married, 55 years old (at the time of writing) and childless by circumstance, not by choice.
Fiona lives in a small town in New Zealand with her hubby (AKA The Count) and their furbabies, Angus of the clan McTate and Felin the Fierce.
Fiona has a BA in Psychology, a National Certificate in Mental Health Support Work, over 25 years work experience with people experiencing mental health issues and alcohol and other drug issues.
She loves to write and to read. She loves to listen to music: Elvis, Meat Loaf, Peter Steele, Amy Winehouse, Kris Kristofferson. Yes, as a psychologist she is well aware that all of her idols are dead just now. There is no need to go into the implications of that.
Fiona loves vampires, tarot, crystals, essential oils, magick, and all things dark.
Fiona has had Depression since she was nine year's old. She wasn't diagnosed until her early twenties: back then it had never occurred to anyone that children could be depressed.
She states "I've lived with the Demon for most of my life and I know it's not going to leave me now. I've learned enough over the years that I can hold it at bay, but at this point, I think of my Depression as an old frenemy.
Fiona writes about Depression. Her essays are included in a weekly newsletter that she sends to all of her subscribers. Her novels are set in the fictional town of Redbough which is populated by vampires, witches, werewolves, and a few humans, many of which suffer from mental illnesses.
Fiona has a practical approach to living well with Depression. She believes that the notion of recovery is bullshit and that its a much better idea to learn how to use creativity to show the demon Depression who's boss. She works with holistic treatments along with medical interventions that work for her as an individual and not a textbook case of a Depressed purpose.
The purpose of all of Fiona's writing is to entertain, educate, and reduce the stigma and discrimination around mental illness. She's on a mission to reduce the global suicide rate to zero using the magic of words and communication, in all its forms.
